Project Brief

Nepal Rastra Bank, banking office at Thapathali is the one which used to be the palace building of the Rana Prime Minister of Nepal. It is also popularly known as the Thapathali Durbar as well as the SinghaMahal. It was one of the large neo classical palace buildings of Nepal constructed by the Ranas with huge ambience and landscaped gardens. After the downfall of the Ranas and establishment of democracy in the year 2007, this palace building was handed over to the government of Nepal and was being used as the office building of the central bank of Nepal, Nepal Rastra Bank.

This neo classical palace was damaged during the Gorkha Earthquake 2015 and could not be retrofitted due to the heavy damage. So, Government of Nepal decided to reconstruct this palace building in the original appearance and aesthetics but with the prevailing advanced construction technology for the office building of Nepal Rastra Bank in place of the original load bearing construction technology in mud mortar brick work.

• Designed to cater more than 350 staff of the 5 important departments of NRB
• Designed a fully functional and modern Central Bank of Nepal with a high secured vault of 3,300 Sq.M having access to the large carrier trucks and the internal movement within the vault has been designed with the use of modern fork lifts.
• Designed with separate underground parking facilities for the office staff (80 four wheelers and 300 two wheelers) and visitors (60 four wheelers and 300 two wheelers).
• Provision of the neoclassical garden in front of the palace building based on the historic photographic evidences.
• The consultants’ service includes the detailed design of the buildings, landscape, the necessary road network within the premises, sanitary and sewage management systems, security system necessary for the project.
